Welcome Sister Dia Zahurska, OSBM

During the celebration of Vespers on June 2024 Sister Dia Zahurska, OSBM officially became a member of Jesus, Lover of Humanity Province.  Sister was born in Velyka Berezovutcia in the Ternopil region, Ukraine.  After completing high school sister entered college for designing and modeling clothes.  Then graduated from the Institute of Higher Religious Culture in Poland; and attended the Pedagogical University in Ivano-Frankiv’sk where she obtained a degree in elementary education.

After entering the Order of the Sisters of St. Basil in 1994 she served in various capacities – House Superior, Secretary in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Mukachevo; helped individuals experiencing PTSD and women experiencing post-abortion syndrome; founded the mission home in Poltava. Sister also studied the writing of icons.

In 2010-2012 Sister came to America where, in addition to ministering at the Motherhouse in Fox Chase, taught at St. George Ukrainian Catholic School in New York.  Returning to Ukraine, sister once again, in March 2022, due to the war in Ukraine, once again came to Fox Chase.

Sister’s shares her many talents by teaching catechism to children and adults at the monastery and local parishes, including the teaching of kindergarten “Svitlychka” at the Ukrainian Cultural Center.  At the monastery sister serves as driver, and her artistic talents are used to decorate the chapel and dining room for special occasions.

At the occasion of sister’s incorporation into Jesus, Lover of Humanity Province, in her enthusiasm, she concluded with the thought – “Now it is time to experience this celebration, and then, with great gratitude to the Lord, get down to work.
