The Archeparchy of Philadelphia held a spiritual renewal program called “Hope & Perseverance, Peace & Justice” on February 15 and 16 to celebrate the Catholic Church’s Jubilee Year of Hope. His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk was present along with all four Ukrainian Catholic hierarchs in the United States. Sisters of the Order of Saint Basil the Great from Fox Chase, Argentina, and Croatia were in attendance along with thousands of faithful, religious, and clergy.

The weekend included services, Confession, lectio divina, a healing prayer with anointing, workshops, and more. His Beatitude celebrated a Pontifical Divine Liturgy at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Sunday at 11 am and was joined by Metropolitan Borys Gudziak, Bishop Paul Chomnycky of the Eparchy of Stamford, Bishop Bohdan Danylo of the Eparchy of St. Josaphat in Parma, and Bishop Benedict Aleksiychuk of the Eparchy of St. Nicholas in Chicago. Later, at 4 pm, a prayer service for Ukraine was jointly led by His Beatitude and Archbishop Nelson Pérez at the Roman Catholic Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul.

A related event for clergy and religious was held on Monday, February 17. After Divine Liturgy and breakfast, His Beatitude spoke about the state of the Ukrainian Catholic Church during the three years since Russia’s full-scale invasion. The Sisters had the opportunity to spend time with His Beatitude, ask questions, and take some photos. These three days were blessed with much prayer, reflection, joy, and hope.
