Interculterality and New Paths of Communion and Hope in Consecrated Life
At the invitation of Sister Ann Laszok, OSBM Sister Monica Jaciuk, OSBM from Christ the King Province in Argentina, gave a workshop to celebrate World Day for Consecrated Life. The theme of the day was Interculturality and New Paths of Communion and Hope in Consecrated Life”. The day began with Matins and Divine Liturgy thanking God for all the Sisters in our Order.
Sister Monica chose two symbols, Bread and Light, to show how, as consecrated women, we are Christ’s light to the people we encounter through our ministry and service. We feed the hungry spiritually, psychologically and physically through our prayer, healing and life-giving presence.
In our global world and International Order, interculturality is important. Sister Monica used the metaphor of bread-baking to the “making” of a healthy intercultural community. Each culture represents a different ingredient. Separately each ingredient is good in itself but when mixed together with the right temperature in the oven it transforms into a new and beautiful gift – bread.
Just as the Baker mixes the individual ingredients and transforms it into a tasty bread, so God kneads each Sister into a healthy community to make the best BREAD with the gifts we are given so that we can satiate the hunger in others. During this presentation the Sisters actually baked bread while reflecting on their individual gifts in community in order to become a Prophetic Sign of Hope for the People of God. As the Sisters enjoyed eating the bread they made, they expressed how enriching the day was for them.
