Loving the Poor

The Winter 2025 edition of Extension, Catholic Extension’s magazine, featured a piece titled “Being Catholic Means ‘loving the poor’: Reflections on the Holy Father’s First Apostolic Exhortation.”
Pope Leo XIV’s Exhortation, titled “Dilexi te” (Latin for ‘I have loved you’), promulgated in October, the Holy Father emphasizes love for the poor as intrinsic to the Christian faith.Photos of Sister Teodora Kopyn, OSBM and Sister Monica Lesnick, OSBM were displayed as examples of loving the homeless. The Sisters of Saint Basil the Great received Catholic Extension’s 2023-2024 Lumen Christi Award for service to the poor and refugees.
Catholic Extension is a fundraising organization based in Chicago that supports Catholic communities all over the United States with financial assistance, educational partnerships, and other means. It was founded in 1905 and began publishing Extension in 1906.
