On May 20, 2019, the Sisters of the Order of Saint Basil the Great, Jesus, Lover of Humanity Province, were honored to welcome His Beatitude Sviataslav Shevchuk to their Motherhouse in Fox Chase, Pa. Accompanied by the Most Reverend Andriy Rabiy, Administrator of the Archeparchy, and by the Most Reverend Andriy Maksymovych, Volodymyr Malchyn and Ihor Yatsiv, His Beatitude was greeted by Provincial Superior Sister Dorothy Ann Busowski, by her Council Sisters Joann, Miriam Claire and Ann Laszok, and by the entire Fox Chase community. Also attending this special event were the Basilian Associates, Chaplain Reverend John Ciurpita, Sean McLauglin (Director of the Basilian Spirituality Center), and visiting iconographer Raymond Vincent.

Sister Dorothy Ann warmly welcomed His Beatitude with the traditional presentation of bread and salt and with heartfelt joy and gratitude for the opportunity to break bread with him, listen to him, and thank him personally for all that he is doing as the head of the Ukrainian Catholic Church. In her remarks, the Provincial Superior specifically thanked His Beatitude for his spiritual leadership, inspiration and support, gifts that he has bestowed both in person and in writing. Citing the Sisters’ patron, St. Basil, she underscored that His Beatitude reflects Basil’s promise that knowledge, inspired by faith and talent, brings humanity closer to God.

His Grace was also personally greeted by all the Sisters and guests attending the event. After asking that the Resurrected Jesus bless His Beatitude with abundant grace, good health, a strong faith, selfless love and courage as he continues in the service of the Ukrainian Catholic Church to which he so generously gives of himself, the Sisters intoned a heartfelt Mnohaia Lita! A festive dinner followed in the Sisters’ dining room.
