St. Basil The Great – A Man for All Times
A presentation to explore the implications of Basil’s social consciousness as witnessed in the Basileiad and its relevance to contemporary social issues.
St. Basil the Great is most known as a prolific writer, eminent theologian and founder of Eastern monasticism. But over and above all his titles the most important aspect of St. Basil’s life was his theology of the poor and his social consciousness. He had a deep love for the poor. In order to carry out his mission to the poor he developed a complex that became known as “The Basileiad” or “New City.”
The presentation will explore the implications of Basil’s social consciousness as witnessed in the Basileiad and its relevance to contemporary social issues.

Sister Dorothy Ann Busowski is the provincial superior of the Sister of the Order of Saint Basil the Great. She has a Master’s Degree in both American History and Holistic Spirituality. Dorothy Ann studied the writing of icons with Phil Zimmerman at St. John of Damascus School of Sacred Art in Ligonier, Pa and was mentored by the iconographer Peter Pearson; she studied Christology, Mariology, and Hagiography at the Ruthenian Catholic Seminary in Pittsburgh. She enjoys combining her background in spirituality with her love of iconography.
