What Do We Believe?

Saturday, January 20 and Saturday, January 27
9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Fee: Free will offering/donation

This is the first in a new Basilian series on the life and writings of St. Basil the Great, Father of the Eastern Church.

The first course (12 hours), an introductory course entitled “What Do We Believe?” includes the topics: Holy, Tradition, the Bible, Councils, Liturgy, Iconography, Church Fathers and Creeds. Participants are asked to bring their catechisms Christ Our Pascha and A Stream of Living Water. Some books will be available for purchase.

This series of courses on various topics of Eastern Christian Spirituality will enrich adults who want to deepen their faith as well as prepare catechists (or potential catechists) who will pass on their faith and tradition to those whom they encounter. Students will be introduced to key concepts such as the meaning of faith, the nature of revelation, the analogy of faith, and the awareness of Church as a “mystery.”

This Catechist Formation Program will assist the catechist as the one who receives and responds to the call of Jesus Christ to share the light of faith with others. To be effective in this work, the catechist must understand, love, live and proclaim the Gospel message with conviction and enthusiasm.

The formation of the catechist has a three-fold propose: to provide for the catechist’s own spiritual growth; to increase the theological knowledge out of which one catechizes; to expand skills in teaching methods through study and practice. Since the Trinity is the source and enabler of all catechesis, prayer is an integral part of anyone’s formation.
