Summer Camp Wraps up at Fox Chase
The Annual Summer Camp at Fox Chase was held July 28 – August 1 on the Motherhouse grounds in collaboration with Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in Melrose Park, PA. The theme was “My Journey with Jesus and Friends,” and 42 children participated.
The camp was organized by our own Sister Dia Zagurska, OSBM; Sister Frantsyska Shablii, OSBM, who is here on long-term assignment from Holy Trinity Province in Ukraine; and Father Roman Oliynyk, pastor of Annunciation BVM. Sister Chrysantha Burmei, OSBM and Sister Estera Kozun, OSBM, also from Holy Trinity Province, arrived in July from Ukraine to help with the camp and will return in October after the Pilgrimage. Additionally, two of the Archeparchy of Philadelphia’s seminarians also volunteered for the week, Nick Sharga and Dorian Kernytsky.
Sisters of Saint Basil the Great are active with similar summer camps all over Europe which offer children opportunities to grow closer to the Lord while having fun and meeting new friends. But what was especially heartwarming about this week at Fox Chase was the emphasis on Jesus’ love for each and every child. The walls of the Basilian Spirituality Center were decorated with images of Jesus caring for and instructing a child.
