General Superior Visits Fox Chase
Mother Emanujila Vishka, OSBM, General Superior of the Sisters of the Order of Saint Basil the Great, is in Fox Chase making a canonical visitation until mid-March. The General Superior makes at least one canonical visit during her six-year term to every province. The purpose is to learn more about the state of the provinces and the individual Sisters who comprise them. This learning process allows each General Superior to assess the gifts and needs within the Order so as to provide better support and strengthen the Basilian Sisters’ ministries around the world.
Mother Emanujila was elected on July 24, 2025, succeeding Mother Marcela Runcan, OSBM as global leader of the Order. A native of Ukraine, Mother Emanujila entered the St. Michael the Archangel Province in Croatia when she was 20. Prior to her election, she served as Assistant General Superior and First Councilor in Mother Marcela’s administration.
Mother Emanujila met with all members of the Jesus, Lover of Humanity Province together at the outset of her time in Fox Chase, and then spent a week meeting with them individually. With the canonical visit now closed, she will remain in the United States for two more weeks to begin fundraising for the Generalate in Rome.“It was such a pleasure to meet with Mother Emanujila because I was able to discuss my life over the last six years and my hopes for the future of our Province and the Order.” –Sister Clement Bartholomew, OSBM
“I really enjoyed my conversation with Mother Emanujila because it reminded me of how big our Order is and how we in Fox Chase are part of the worldwide Basilian family.” –Sister Lydia Anna Sawka, OSBM
