Did You Know?
St. Nicholas of Myra was a 4th century bishop from Asia Minor (modern Turkey) long remembered for his generosity towards the poor.
He is the basis for the legend of Santa Claus or “Old St. Nick”. Interestingly, St. Basil the Great was also a 4th century
bishop from Asia Minor. The two men were born about 60 years apart (St. Nicholas was older), but their lives overlapped f
or more than a decade. Perhaps these two great saints crossed paths and met one another!
